An international specialized certificate

On 4/15/2023, Engineer Ali Amer, member of the Department of Materials Engineering, obtained an international specialized certificate in the Advanced Cardiac Life Support Program for Adults, which is considered one of the programs of the American Institute for Health and Safety. The program relies on training according to scenarios that give continuous training with specific skills for health practitioners participating in resuscitation attempts. It is designed to give the trainees an opportunity to develop and improve their knowledge and apply skills professionally and proficiently. The program is in line with the latest international recommendations such as cardiopulmonary resuscitation and emergency cardiac care from the American Heart Association.

Asst.Lecturer Hashem Sharif Nehma/ Department of Materials Engineering
The workshop included what radiation is, its types, uses and importance in the medical fields
At the end of the workshop, the certificate of appreciation was distributed to the lecturers.

M.D. shared Saja Aqil, Eng. Ali Amer, and PhD student Diana Muhammad from the Department of Materials Engineering attended the exhibition of the Industrial Research and Development Authority at the Ministry of Industry and Minerals, on Wednesday, 3/15/2023. Dr. Saja Aqil with her PhD project entitled "Preparation and Characterization of a Biomaterials System for Drug Delivery". Polycaprolactone tissue for drug delivery (Metoprolol Tartrate and metformin hydrochloride) was produced for the treatment of cardiovascular diseases. These tissues were loaded with human stem cells to treat muscle damage. heart as a result of an infarction.
As for the engineer, Ali Amer, he participated in an innovative electronic computational program that diagnoses the properties of materials, which included programs such as the program for measuring thermal properties, the purpose of which is to obtain direct and accurate results for the properties of thermal materials such as thermal conductivity and heat flow, while the graduate, Diana Muhammad, participated in her graduation project tagged "Development of a biological material for processing Wounds (Calofera treatment)” The name Calovera came as a result of the use of vital materials, where work was done to manufacture two types of medical dressing, liquid and dry, in addition to the therapeutic material that is used in the treatment of simple wounds and the treatment of wounds of diabetics because of the property of the therapeutic substance to stimulate the collagen present in the skin, which leads to To heal the wound faster, in addition to the fact that the therapeutic substance has antibacterial and other microbial properties and other therapeutic properties.

A scientific visit

The Biomaterials and Prosthesis Engineering Branch in the Department of Materials Engineering headed by Asst. Prof. Dr. Qahtan Adnan Hamad, in the presence of members of the teaching staff of the branch, made a scientific visit to Ibn Al-Qaf Hospital / Baghdad Center for Prosthetics. The Center's Director, Dr. Saleh Burhan, then welcomed guests, provided background information, introduced each department, and described the stages that amputees and other people with disabilities go through, including case evaluation, diagnosis, and examination.

Finally, he described the prosthetic limb's creation processes and listed the materials used in them. The standards for prosthetic limbs, as well as the challenges and issues that could occur throughout the process of making them, in addition to any obstacles or problems that may arise during the manufacturing process.

The students were briefed on a number of cases, how to diagnose them, and how to use the prosthesis at the end of the scientific visit.

  6. Prof. Dr. Hussein Alaa Jaber, an honorable member
  7. Prof. Muhammad Jawad Issa, advisory supervisor member

In addition, the dissertation was scientifically evaluated by Prof. Dr. Bahaa Sami Mahdi/ University of Technology/ Department of Production and Minerals Engineering, and Prof. Dr. Mohsen Abbas Aswad/ University of Babylon/ College of Materials Engineering, and linguistically by Prof. Dr. Khaled Khudair Abbas/ University of Technology/ Department of Materials Engineering.

Abstract:

The aim of this study is to improve the surface properties of CP Ti implants and Ti6Al4V ELI. This was achieved by preparing hydroxyapatite substituted with rare earth elements, magnesium, and zinc, then utilizing them as biomaterials for coating samples by EPD technique. The properties of samples after coating were studied in vitro and in vivo, where the results showed significant improvement in the engineering and biological properties of the samples after the coating process.
